How to Find More of the Best iPhone Apps

In previous articles we have been looking at iPhone apps best suited for what you use your iPhone most. Do you use it extensively for business? Is your iPhone more for personal use? Do you travel a great deal or do you like to use it for play and fun? Whatever the reason you use your iPhone there are apps available for either free or nominal fees at iTunes and many new apps stores that are trying to distinguish themselves from iTunes so that they get noticed. A recent article said that the number of apps on iTunes will go over 300,000 some time in November 2010. If you are an app developer how do you get your iPhone apps best noticed by consumers if you are buried among several hundred thousand other apps?

Most review sites for apps categorize them by utility and pay status. The best review sites list the various apps in category in order based on their statistics from iTunes (download numbers). For example, we mentioned that the Free Apps were categorized as the Top 50 Free... and the Top 50 Paid... Apps in the review site appstoreapps.com. Under the free category for Utilities I noticed there was a WiFi locator function. How can this be of any help when your iPhone has its own WiFi capability and if you can not get online then you know you are not near a WiFi hot spot. I guess it could come in handy if you want to get online with your lap top and do not have an idea of where to go.

If you are one of those people who just love ringtones and you have pretty much exhausted the Myxer site you can download for free the 1001 Ringtone Lite (Free ringtones) app. There were some excellent reviews that said this was perfect for those who do not want to pay $.99 for ringtones on iTunes and who do not like the packaged ringtones that come with the iPhone. The biggest complaint I could see was that it was difficult choosing ringtones due to the fact that there were so many good ones.

If you use your iPhone mostly for business there are several apps that can make your device a much more powerful one. There are apps for UPS, USPS and FedEx and even a Zip Code finder that can help you with any kind of shipping problems or issues that come along. Keep in mind that these are free apps and do not require any kind of subscription or membership to use. The USPS app gives you maps of the closest post offices to your location given by GPS along with the ability to estimate postage and track any packages or letters with tracking numbers. The USPS, UPS and FedEx apps are iPhone apps best used by people in logistics that have an iPhone.

The UPS and FedEx apps are both very similar in functionality to their main web sites with tracking available right away along with a map with shipping center locations pin pointed on a map based on the GPS location of your iPhone.
