How to Disable the Aero Theme on Windows 7

The Windows 7 Aero theme adds some extra beauties to the Windows 7 interfaces, but certainly is a resource hog. Unless you care about the looking of your Windows 7, what we want now is more performance juice from the OS, so disabling this feature is an essential step to add an extra speed boost to your computer.

To disable Windows Aero Theme (method 1):

  1. Right Click anywhere on your Desktop, and then select Personalize.
  2. Click on the Window Color tab.
  3. Uncheck/Untick the checkbox for Enable Transparency.
  4. Click on Open classic appearance properties for more color options.
  5. A window will open up. Select a Standard or Basic theme for your Windows. The Standard Windows 7 theme is more preferred

Windows 7 Ultimate users (method 2):

  1. Right Click anywhere on your Desktop, and then select Personalize.
  2. In the theme selection window, scroll down until you see Basic and high contrast themes.
  3. Select any theme from that section. These themes use relatively little resources on your computer. These themes can certainly reduce unnecessary loads on your computer and speed up your Windows 7. Windows Classic is more preferred.
